Lasers and IPL are minimally invasive treatments which can be used to remove thread veins on the face, body and legs quickly and effectively. Thread vein removal treatment will remove thread veins between approximately 1-3 mm in size.

HOW ARE THREAD VEINS REMOVED?

  • The laser light passes safely through the skin which is readily absorbed by blood vessels, but not by the surrounding skin, heating them to point where the blood in the targeted blood vessel coagulates.

  • This causes the vein to coagulate and break down. The damaged veins are gradually dissolved and removed naturally by the body, fading their appearance over several weeks after treatment, leaving little or no trace of the original vein.

Between one to three sessions is usually required to obtain satisfactory results. Rarely more treatments maybe required, or in some very rare cases, the vein may not respond.

Veins can present in the following ways:

WHAT CAUSES THREAD VEINS?

Thread Veins are often seen at birth when the skin is very thin and pale, and they can therefore be considered a normal feature of the skin. However as we age, veins can become more prominent due to the follow causes:

  • Sun damage

  • Extreme Temperature changes

  • Alcohol

  • Genetics

  • Skin conditions ie Rosacea; Scleroderma; Lupus (SLE)

  • Stress

  • Hormonal Changes ie Menopause

  • Medications ie Corticosteroids

  • Tobacco

  • Pregnancy

  • Ageing

CAN WE TREAT ALL SKIN TYPES?

Not only do we have the Gold Standard for Vascular treatments with the 532nm KTP Laser, we also have a number of 1064nm Nd:YAG Lasers for treating veins too. The longer wavelength of Nd:YAG is renowned for it’s safety in all skin types, including darker type 4-6 skin. This includes Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Latin, Asian and Black skin types.

     Spider Veins Treatment

I cannot recommend Dr Berry highly enough. From the exceptionally thorough initial consultation to the actual Lyndon laser treatment of the spider veins on my cheek area.

Dr Berry has such a lovely, welcoming manner and totally put me at ease. Explaining what would happen during, after the procedure and any possible side effects of which I experienced none.

Have to say have been delighted with the results and after three sessions there has been a very significant reduction in the spider veins!

Thank you, Dr Berry.

Dr Berry explains that there are many types of veins and vascular lesions, and therefore it's crucial to use the correct type of laser, and the appropriate laser settings.

We have four Vascular Lasers, and an IPL with a range of spot sizes to cater for all kinds of vascular conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Pre-treatment advice?

Do not attend for treatment with a sun tan; make-up or fake tan.

Does the treatment hurt?

Laser and IPl treatment involve a “photo-thermal” reaction, and hence there is some heat involved in the process. This can translate to pain or discomfort, however we use cold air and pre and post-cooling to reduce any discomfort. Pain will also depend on the area being treated. Some treatments are pain free, whilst others in more sensitive areas can be more uncomfortable.

How long does the treatment take?

Appointments are usually 30mins, however the treatment sometimes take a few seconds of minutes depending on the individual case.

What type of laser will be used?

KTP Laser: The perfect laser for the treatment of vascular lesions and superficial pigmentation. The KTP laser is a solid state laser, generating green light at the wavelength 532nm.

Who will do my treatment?

They may be carried out by a doctor or a trained laser therapist. You will be aware of who will be doing your treatment before you confirm the booking, and the cost will reflect the practitioner delivering the treatment.

How many treatments will it take?

Occasionally only one treatment can resolve a specific target lesion ie a capillary angioma. Often more significant veins or lesions will need 2-3 treatments. Rarely more would be required if the condition is more complication, but you would be advised of this is advance.

Side Effects

Usually this is merely redness and possibly some swelling of the skin. Very rarely a wound or scar could be causes, but this is very unlikely.

Aftercare

In general we advise to treatment the skin like it’s sustained a minor sunburn. Keep it cook and treat it gentle. Creams such as Vaseline or Aloe Vera are usually recommended for use after treatment, and sun/UV avoidance.
