What it is, who gets it, where it appears

A venous lake is a small, benign vascular lesion caused by the dilation of superficial veins close to the surface of the skin. Venous lakes most commonly occur in adults, particularly with increasing age, and are often associated with long-term sun exposure. They are frequently found on sun-exposed areas such as the lips, ears and occasionally the face.

Treatment options and expected outcome

Following medical assessment, treatment may involve vascular laser therapy designed to target the dilated blood vessel while preserving surrounding skin tissue. The laser energy causes the vessel to collapse and gradually be reabsorbed by the body. In many cases, improvement is seen after one or more sessions, depending on the size and location of the lesion.

Review review
We specialise in skin surgery at The Wellfield Skin Clinic. All procedures are carried out by Dr Berry who has been practising in surgical techniques since 2004. Dr Berry is a member of the following relevant organisations:

A consultation is essential to discuss the method of removal, and we recommend a cooling off period before going ahead with any surgery. Occasionally it may be advised that certain skin lesions are left alone for risk of less preferable scarring.

Please email photos and some descriptions of your skin lesion to our Clinic Coordinator, Georgie Egerton, on appointments@theskinclinic.com who will discuss your case and come back with the available treatment options and an estimate of costs.
