What it is, who gets it, where it appears

Cysts and lipomas are common benign lumps that develop beneath the skin. Cysts are typically fluid- or keratin-filled sacs, while lipomas are composed of fatty tissue. Both can occur in adults of all ages and are usually slow-growing.

These lumps may appear on the face, scalp, neck, back or torso, although they can develop in other areas. While often harmless, they may become uncomfortable, inflamed or cosmetically concerning over time.

Treatment options and expected outcome

Following clinical assessment, treatment may involve complete surgical excision performed under local anaesthetic. Removing the entire cyst wall or lipoma capsule helps reduce the likelihood of recurrence.

Procedures are carried out in a controlled clinical environment using sterile techniques. The aim is safe and effective removal with minimal discomfort and a predictable healing process, taking into account the size and location of the lesion.

Review review
We specialise in skin surgery at The Wellfield Skin Clinic. All procedures are carried out by Dr Berry who has been practising in surgical techniques since 2004. Dr Berry is a member of the following relevant organisations:

-
The Royal College of Surgeons of England (RCS)
-
Association of Surgeons in Primary Care (ASPC)
-
Primary Care Dermatology Society (PCDS)
A consultation is essential to discuss the method of removal, and we recommend a cooling off period before going ahead with any surgery. Occasionally it may be advised that certain skin lesions are left alone for risk of less preferable scarring.

Please email photos and some descriptions of your skin lesion to our Clinic Coordinator, Georgie Egerton, on appointments@theskinclinic.com who will discuss your case and come back with the available treatment options and an estimate of costs.
