Lasers use PhotoThermal tissue interactions to provide non-invasive treatments which can be used to remove leg veins quickly and effectively. Leg vein removal treatment can treat red, blue or purple leg veins between approximately 1-5 mm in diameter.

  • The laser light passes safely through the skin which is readily absorbed by blood vessels, but not by the surrounding skin, heating them to point where the blood in the targeted blood vessel coagulates.

  • This causes the vein to coagulate and break down. The damaged veins are gradually dissolved and removed naturally by the body, fading their appearance over several weeks after treatment, leaving little or no trace of the original vein.

Between one to three sessions is usually required to obtain satisfactory results. Rarely more treatments maybe required, or in some very rare cases, the vein may not respond.

What are thread veins?
Yoga at Home

The term “Thread Vein” is used for a range of presentations of redness or blood vessels usually affecting the face or legs, although they can appear almost anywhere on the body.

Veins can present in the following ways:

  • Thread Veins

  • Spider Veins (also known as Spider Naevi)

  • Broken Capillaries

  • Flushing

  • Cuperose

  • Telangiectasias

  • Rosacea

Thread Veins are often seen at birth when the skin is very thin and pale, and they can therefore be considered a normal feature of the skin. However as we age, veins can become more prominent due to the follow causes:

  • Sun damage

  • Extreme Temperature changes

  • Alcohol

  • Genetics

  • Skin conditions ie Rosacea; Scleroderma; Lupus (SLE)

  • Stress

  • Hormonal Changes ie Menopause

  • Medications ie Corticosteroids

  • Tobacco

  • Pregnancy

  • Ageing

Not only do we have the Gold Standard for Vascular treatments with the 532nm KTP Laser, we also have a number of 1064nm Nd:YAG Lasers for treating veins too. The longer wavelength of Nd:YAG is renowned for it’s safety in all skin types, including darker type 4-6 skin. This includes Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, Latin, Asian and Black skin types.

Nd:YAG laser is the gold standard for the treatment of blue and purple leg veins as well as other vascular lesions such as scars and venous lakes. KTP Laser may be recommended in certain skin types for more superficial red spider veins.

Patient Review of Thread Vein Removal

Deborah Gass, UK

Have to say, have been delighted with the results

     Spider Veins Treatment

I cannot recommend Dr Berry highly enough. From the exceptionally thorough initial consultation to the actual Lyndon laser treatment of the spider veins on my cheek area.

Dr Berry has such a lovely, welcoming manner and totally put me at ease. Explaining what would happen during, after the procedure and any possible side effects of which I experienced none.

Have to say have been delighted with the results and after three sessions there has been a very significant reduction in the spider veins!

Thank you, Dr Berry.

Expert Commentary

Dr Berry explains that there are many types of veins and vascular lesions, and therefore it's crucial to use the correct type of laser, and the appropriate laser settings.

We have four Vascular Lasers, and an IPL with a range of spot sizes to cater for all kinds of vascular conditions.
